Bacopa Monnieri in MemoMatrix: How Much Is in Each Version?
Quick answerBacopa monnieri is the only herb on all three MemoMatrix ingredient lists. The full label gives 200 mg per 2 capsules. The second panel puts it in a 151 mg blend with no single amount. - Bacopa monnieri (water hyssop)
Bacopa monnieri, also called water hyssop, is a small creeping herb with white flowers. It grows in wet ground and has a long history in traditional medicine in India.
In MemoMatrix, it is the second line on the full label, after the BCAAs. The facts above come from that label. The other two lists treat bacopa differently, as the next section shows.
The only herb on all three ingredient lists
Three ingredient lists circulate under the MemoMatrix name. Bacopa and rhodiola are the only items on every one. Bacopa is the only herb with a printed amount on the full label that also shows up in the other two.
| List | How bacopa is named | Amount | Extract strength |
|---|---|---|---|
| Full label (REV.11/25) | Bacopa Monnieri Extract | 200 mg per 2 capsules | Not printed |
| Second panel image | Bacopa monnieri whole plant extract | Unknown, inside a 151 mg blend | 20% bacosides A&B |
| Sales page | Bacopa monnieri extract | No amount given | Not given |
The which formula page lays out all three lists in full. Rhodiola, the other shared item, has its own section on the ingredients page.
How much bacopa did the memory trials give people?
- 300-450 mga day in memory trials
- 12 weekstypical trial length
- 518people in a 9-trial review
A review of six 12-week trials found that 300 to 450 mg a day improved free-recall memory in 9 of 17 tests (Pase et al., 2012). In a free-recall test, you hear a word list and later repeat as many words as you can, with no prompts. Other thinking skills changed little.
A second review pooled 9 trials with 518 people who took a standardized extract for at least 12 weeks (Kongkeaw et al., 2014). Bacopa improved measures of speed of attention. The authors said larger trials are still needed.
How do 200 mg and the blend compare with those doses?
On the full label, 200 mg is about two-thirds of 300 mg, the low end of the studied range. The label does not say how strong the extract is, so it is hard to compare with the standardized extracts used in trials.
The second panel lists a whole plant extract at 20% bacosides. That tells you the strength, but not the amount. Bacopa shares a 151 mg blend with six other items. So each capsule holds less than 151 mg of bacopa, which is at most about half of 300 mg.
How to read a dose gap
A smaller dose is not proof that something fails. It only means the amount was not the one tested. The Supplement Facts page shows both panels.
How is the bacopa in MemoMatrix taken?
You cannot take the bacopa on its own. It comes in the same capsules as everything else on your panel. By the full label, that means two capsules once a day, washed down with 8 oz of water a little before you eat.
Trials gave bacopa every day, so a steady routine matters more than the hour. If your bottle carries the 1-capsule panel, follow that panel instead. Never take extra capsules to reach a study dose. Ideas for remembering each dose are on the how to use page.
Whose doctor should see the bottle before bacopa starts?
Bacopa: get a medical opinion first if you are
- Anyone who takes thyroid medicine
- Anyone on several daily prescriptions, since bacopa may change how drugs are processed
- Anyone who has frequent stomach trouble or loose stools
- Anyone pregnant, breastfeeding or not yet 18, per the label caution
- Anyone whose panel lists huperzine A and who takes donepezil or a similar drug
- Anyone whose memory loss is new, sudden or getting worse
Bring the bottle, not just the name. The three lists differ, so your doctor needs to see the actual panel.
What does a 12-week bacopa timeline look like?
Bacopa trials ran for 12 weeks or more before measuring memory. This timeline shows what research suggests to watch for. It is not a promise of results from MemoMatrix.
- Before day 1
Match the panel on your bottle to a list, and show it to your doctor if you take any daily medicine.
- Weeks 1 to 4
Stomach upset, nausea or loose stools are the side effects most often reported. Note them if they appear.
- Weeks 4 to 8
Trials did not measure memory this early. Keep the dose steady rather than adding more.
- Day 60
The sales page guarantee window closes, before the 12-week mark. Decide by then if you want a refund.
- Week 12
The point where trials measured recall. Look back honestly at how you feel, with a family member's view.
The results timeline page covers the whole product, not just bacopa. The guarantee page explains how the 60-day window works.
What side effects can bacopa cause?
StatPearls lists an upset stomach as the top complaint, along with nausea, cramping and looser, more frequent stools (StatPearls, Bacopa). Stop and call your doctor if they are strong or do not settle.
The caution panel on the full label names three groups who should see a physician before use: expecting or breastfeeding mothers, minors and people with a known medical condition. Our side effects page covers every ingredient on all three lists.
Does bacopa clash with thyroid pills or other daily drugs?
Thyroid medicine and other daily drugs
It might. StatPearls warns that bacopa can change how the liver clears many medicines, and that thyroid treatment may be affected (StatPearls, Bacopa). If you take a thyroid pill or several daily medicines, ask your pharmacist before you start.
The 1-capsule version adds more to think about. Its blend also lists caffeine and huperzine A. Huperzine A acts on the same enzyme as donepezil, a prescription memory medicine. The huperzine A page explains why that pairing needs a doctor's input.
Honest note: what bacopa can and cannot tell you about this product
Bacopa has been tested in several controlled trials, but the gains were small and limited to certain tests. No study of MemoMatrix has been published, and no supplement is proven to prevent dementia (NCCIH, Supplements for cognitive function).
If forgetfulness is new or gets in the way of daily life, a doctor visit comes first (NIA, Memory problems and aging). A doctor can also look for fixable causes, such as too little B12 or a side effect from another pill.
Bacopa and MemoMatrix FAQ: what people ask
What is the usual Bacopa monnieri dosage in studies?
Most trials used 300 to 450 mg of extract a day for 12 weeks. That is the range the main reviews looked at.
Is 200 mg of bacopa in MemoMatrix enough?
It is about two-thirds of the lowest dose used in memory trials. A lower dose has simply not been tested in those studies, and no study of the product exists.
How many weeks before bacopa shows any effect?
Trials measured results after 12 weeks of daily use. Shorter use was not the focus of those reviews, so expect no quick change.
Can Bacopa monnieri upset your stomach?
Yes, that is the usual complaint. Nausea, cramps and extra trips to the bathroom are also reported; tell your doctor if they do not settle.
Can bacopa interact with thyroid medicine?
It may. StatPearls notes bacopa may affect thyroid medicine and the liver enzymes that process many drugs, so ask your doctor or pharmacist first.
What are bacosides?
Bacosides are compounds in bacopa that makers use to standardize an extract. The second MemoMatrix panel lists 20% bacosides A and B; the full label does not print a strength.
Does bacopa improve memory?
Some trials found better scores on free-recall tests after 12 weeks, but other thinking tests did not change. That is not proof that any one product works.
How much bacopa is in the 1-capsule MemoMatrix?
Nobody outside the maker knows. It is one of seven items in a 151 mg blend, so it must be less than 151 mg.
Why is bacopa in every version of MemoMatrix?
The brand does not explain its formulas. Bacopa is simply the one herb, along with rhodiola, that all three lists share.
